The Instituto de Historia Argentina y Americana “Dr. Emilio Ravignani” (Institute of History of Argentina and the Americas “Dr. Emilio Ravignani”) is one of the leading History research institutions of Argentina, having been instrumental in the field since its beginnings, and playing a prominent role among Latin American academic institutions devoted to the study of the past.
In 2021, the Instituto celebrated its centennial, with great joy and success. This is a brochure which we have launched on that occasion, summarizing our history and activities. Firstly edited in Spanish, we offered now an English version, in order to provide our Anglophone colleagues a brief account of what we did and do. Every year, our researchers take part in a wide range of activities everywhere, and release a number of articles, chapters and books in many languages, a significant portion in English; links to part of that material are included in their individual professional accounts, which appear in our official website. However, all main information was in Spanish, and, although it is the basic language of our field, it was advisable to have at least part of it available in English. We hope that it would be a way to raise awareness of our work among a wider scholarly audience, in times of great development of Global History, and a rising interest in the matters of the Global South. No doubt, our past can offer clues to better understand the world of today, where some long-accepted certainties of old times have been crumbled away.
